What Do We Do with Your Gifts?
Building on a century of health care excellence through philanthropy
When Nils Johanson emigrated from Sweden, he had a few dollars in his pocket and no knowledge of the English language. He earned his medical degree and upon moving to Seattle, was disappointed in the lack of first-rate hospitals and decided to build his own.
Thanks to donations from fellow immigrants, Swedish Hospital was born in 1910 with the goal to provide the best medical care in the region—with an expert staff and the latest technology and equipment.
Since our founding, philanthropy has significantly enhanced our ability to grow and transform. Today Swedish is the largest nonprofit health care provider in the Greater Seattle area.
Your investment—now or in the future—helps advance the health care of our region, ensuring patients have access to the safest, highest-quality, most-advanced health care available. We hope you use the information on this site to learn the benefits to you and the health of our community when you make a gift to Swedish through your will, trust, or other smart strategies. Your gift will help ensure Swedish’s extraordinary care and extraordinary caring continue far into the future.
